Chemistry & Materials Forum No. 150: Selective Photoconversion of Methane over Metal Nanocomposites (Dr. Andrei Khodakov)

Dr. Andrei Khodakov, the senior research director at Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS)was invited to visit our College of Chemical and Materials Science for two weeks and gave a talk on 'Selective Photoconversion of Methane over Metal Nanocomposites' on Oct. 25th, 2019.

Dr. Khodakov introduced thedifficulty of C-H bond activation in the process of methane conversion from the perspective of chemical kinetics, and proposed the feasible research directionin the future. He discussed the design and selection of materials in the process of methane photochemical coupling, and emphasized the excellent performance of Zn HPW/TiO2 materials in the direction of methane photocoupled to CO and Ag HPW / TiO2 materials in the direction of methane photocoupled to ethane. In the end, he introduced in detail the ways to study the reaction mechanism and how to design and modify the reactor according to the reaction mechanism and industrial demand, in orderto achieve more optimized catalytic performance.

Dr. Khodakov is a senior research director at Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), a coordinator of the CatEn Team (Catalysis for Energy, currently: 8 permanent staffs et 15 PhD students/postdocs), and a member of Scientific Council of UCCS (UMR 8181). His research interests include energy application catalysis, photocatalysis, etc. He has published more than 150 papers in academic journals including Chemical Review, Nature Communications, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, ACS Catalysis, Applied Catalysis B, etc. His scientific publications have a total number of citations of more than 8600, including more than 1680 citations for a single published chemical review, and the current H factor is 40.
