Chemistry & Materials Forum No. 151: CO2 Utilization : Role of Chemistry and Catalysis (Dr. Andrei Khodakov)

Dr. Andrei Khodakov, the senior research director from Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS)was invited to visit our College of Chemical and Materials Science for two weeks and gave a talk on 'CO2Utilization : Role of Chemistry andCatalysis' on Oct. 29th, 2019. It was hosted by prof. Jingping Hong.

Dr. Khodakov introduced the methods of reducing CO2 content in the atmosphere, including traditional capture and collection, biological and chemical transformation. He focused on various chemical utilization ways of carbon dioxide, such as urea synthesis, hydrogenation to various chemicals (dimethylether, methanol and fuel), reaction with methane, oxidative dehydrogenation,synthesis of carbonate, and olefin carboxylation. He pointed out the challenges in the ways above and compared the commercial prices of fuel and chemicals with the prices of petroleum refining and CO2 conversion from aneconomic perspective. Dr. Khodakov hadd iscussion with the attendees.

Dr. Khodakov is a senior research director from Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), a coordinator of the CatEn Team (Catalysis for Energy, currently:8 permanent staffs et 15 PhD students/postdocs), and a member of ScientificCouncil of UCCS (UMR 8181). His researchinterests include energy application catalysis, photocatalysis, etc. He has published more than 150 papers in academic journals including Chemical Review, Nature Communications, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, ACS Catalysis, Applied Catalysis B, etc. His scientific publications have a total number of citations of more than 8600, including more than 1680 citations for a single published chemical review, and the current H factor is 40.
