Prof. David Hui from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of University of New Orleans, gave a talk titled ‘Composites under Harsh Environments’ on Jun. 9th, 2017. It was hosted by Prof. Yingkui Yang.

Prof. David Hui started with the research achievements his group obtained in compound material, and introduced the relationship between modulus, strength, toughness and other mechanical properties of composites. He emphasized failure behavior and service performance of composite under extreme conditions such as high temperature, high pressure and high load. He made practical demonstration by using canned Coca-Cola bottles, tapes, thermos cups and other auxiliary props. The talk was warmly welcomed by audience, resulting in active discussion.

Prof. David Hui is a famous scholar internationally in composite materials and mechanical engineering. He is the director of Advanced Composite Materials Laboratory of University of New Orleans, a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineering, chief editor of Composites Part B, editors of 11 SCI journals, chair of ICCE conferences. He won Ohio State University Prize for Scientific Research, Ralph James Award by American Association of Mechanical Engineers, NASA Research Award, and so on. He has more than 210 scientific publications and authored more than 40 books.
