Chemistry & Materials Forum No. 86: Beyond the Brink of Water Crises Where Every Drop Counts

Dr. Bhekie Mamba, professor at University of South Africa, was invited to give a talk titled ‘Beyond the brink of water crises where every drop counts on Dec. 18, 2017. It was hosted by Prof. Aiqing Zhang, the head of College of Chemistry and Materials Science.

Prof. Mamba first briefly introduced the history and development of School of Science and Engineering at University of South Africa, then he presented his recent studies on (1) treatment and recycle of ground and underground water, (2) application of nano techniques to waste water treatment, and (3) membrane separation technology and application to industry. The talk was warmly welcomed by audience, resulting in active discussion.

Prof. Bhekie Mamba obtained his Ph. D degree at Department of Chemistry of University of South Africa in 1998, and then worked as tenure-tracked professor, and later as the dean of the Department of Chemistry and head of School of Science in University of Johannesburg. He now works as the head of School of Science and Engineering at University of South Africa. He is the Fellow of African Scientific Institute, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), and one of the founder of African Membrane Society. He is a renowned scholar in the area of treatment of micro polluted water and membrane separation technology. He had more than 200 publications of research papers, authored 7 books, and gave more than 50 talks in international conferences.
