Chemistry & Materials Forum No. 91: Method and application of polymer characterizatization

Xudong Chen, professor of Zhongshan Universty was invited to deliver a talk on Method and application of polymer characterization on Jan. 13th, 2018. The audience were graudate students, lecturers and professors of College of Chemistry & Materials Science. It was presided by Professor Daohong Zhang.

Based on his research group’s work, he covered the topics of physical and chemical parameters of polymer characterization, the further application of high polymer characterization method, basic principles and information of characterization instruments.

Then he delivered another topic on ‘Points and matters of attention of how to write application of National Natural Science Foundation’. He introduced the points, matters of attention and limitation in the process of project establishment and project approval. He explained in detail about topic selection, abstract, review, theoretical basis, research status, research contents, research objects, key problems, technical routes and research project etc. The topics were warmly welcomed by audience, resulting in active discussion. It helped the researchers to learn better about application of National Natural Science Foundation. The applicants will benefit from the topic and have higher chance of project approval.

Xudong Chen, professor of Chemistry at Zhongshan University, graduated from Chemistry Department of Xiamen University majoring macromolecule with a Bachelor’s degree in 1988.In 1991 he got a Master’s degree at Polymer Institute of Zhongshan University. He obtained his Ph.D degree in engineering at the Department of Macromolecular Materials Science and Engineering of Huanan University of Science and Technology. From 1997 to 1999, he worked as a post-doc in the Institute of Material Science. Now his research focuses on polymer characterization using resonance scattering spectroscope, fluorescence and raman spectroscopy, polymer optical functional composites, polymer condensed matter physics, high performance and functionalization of polymers. He presided and is presiding multiple key projects of National Natural Science Foundation, in addition to National Key Research and Development Plan. He published over 100 research papers at Adv. Mater, Adv. Funct. Mater., Macromolecules, Appl. Phys. Lett.and so on.
